Aiden took his first plane trip down to SoCal to meet the rest of the family and friends who haven't made it up to our neck of the woods. He was a superstar traveler and slept for the majority of both plane rides - go Aiden! The first day of the trip was a little rough between the plane ride, the hot weather (which he hates) and teething. Luckily "Auntie" Kelly showed us her patented "human swing" moves which put him out for a much needed nap. Thanks again Kel, we totally used that trick all weekend - worked like a charm. Saturday he was back to his happy-go-lucky self and spent the entire afternoon being passed around and hanging out with everyone. He even happily tolerated a photo shoot in the Gilbertson family Christening gown. Apparently he was unfazed by suddenly looking like a pretty little girl instead of a cute little boy - ha! My dad took a hundred great photos but here are some of my favorites:
We were all pretty worn out from the trip by the time we got back though:
And in not so exciting news: my lab has been hit pretty hard by the current recession and is making drastic personnel cuts (roughly 1/4 of our staff) in the hopes of paring down enough to survive for the next few years. I was one of the unlucky and was let go last Friday. The upshots are that there do seem to be some open biotech jobs in the area and I'm more than qualified for most of them. Plus I'll also be able to stop running myself ragged trying to work and complete the PhD coursework - yay! The current plan is to finish out the quarter in the hopes that I'll have the opportunity to come back to the PhD program in the future, and work hard to find a new job before they kick me out of here on July 14th. Wish me luck!
and one more cute photo just because...
